Developing Preschool and Kindergarten Behavior Scales: Identification of Children Needing Early intervention
Hui Young Chun
Abstract
The present research aimed to assess the validity, reliability and item discrimination of the Preschool and Kindergarten Behavior Scales(PKBS: Merrell, 1994) for the purpose of identification of young Korean children showing social and emotional problems. The subjects were 306 4-year-old kindergarten children. Their teachers responded to the `social skills` and the `problem behavior` subscales. Statistical analyses were by factor analysis, Pearson`s r and χ^2, Construct validity was composed with 3 factors on both the social skills and the problem behavior subscales. These factors corresponded to the original PKBS factors. Internal consistency and interrelationships of PKBS subscales were meaningful. Reliability of each subscale was high and the item discrimination, χ^2 value and Cramer`s Ⅴ were also meaningful.
